Driving licence changes from the 8th June 2015

Click here to go to the DVLA licence website

If you have one of the older paper only driving licences these changes do not affect you and you must keep your paper licence & bring it with you to hire our car, if you have one of the current "credit card" sized plastic driving licences, this change does affect you.

On the 8th June 2015 the government changed the way endorsements and driving bands are recorded, from that date onwards drivers with a current plastic card style licence can no longer present the paper counterpart to their licence as evidence of driving history when they hire a car, they must now go to a DVLA website, no more than 72 hours before the start of the hire period & enter their driving licence number and national insurance number, the website is https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.

On that page there is an option to share this information, from here you can print the driving licence history, this is the best option, as it will be quickest when you pick up our car. You can also write down the check code that they offer, but you need to take care as this is case sensitive.

If you only bring your photo card driving licence we may still be able to let you have the hire car, as we can use a premium rate DVLA licence check phone line, however this operates at restricted times, so is not always available, for instance at weekends on bank holidays or evenings, due to the cost of this service there is a charge, which you can avoid by bringing a licence check print out that is less than 72 hours old.

Unfortunately, like all hire companies, if we cannot complete a licence check we are unable to release the hire car due to insurance conditions.

As a small provider, with only a single hire car, we only have licence check facilities with the DVLA and cannot hire the car to holders of non UK driving licences.
